Biography
Life on the road is not an easy one. However, the call is a divine mission, and Florida-based trio The Walkers feel the journey is well worthwhile.
The group formed over 18 years ago, performing generally in Florida. However, in order to reach a broader audience and touch more lives, the group has learned to adapt.
Billy Walker explained, “The Walkers have always been able to adapt to the ever-changing church world of ministry. In the beginning, we were live music with a total southern gospel feel. A year or so into our full-time ministry, we got involved in the use of tracks as well as more modern forms of Christian music.”
“The original material that we were writing began to have a little more edgy country/contemporary feel to it, but still having the elements of the southern gospel genre that we love.” Billy continued. “Probably one thing that will never change about the Walkers is that signature southern gospel tag and gut busting endings that this genre is known for.”
Today, the music can only be described as “Walker Style”.
“We only care about sounding like who we are. We have been fortunate to be extremely versatile,” mentioned Walker. “We move from southern gospel to country, from traditional hymns to today’s top praise and worship and there is a seamless transition.
In the future, The Walkers’ goals are to continue to be on the cutting edge of music ministry and to be a relevant ministry for today’s relevant church.
Billy responded, “We want to continue to grow in our music as the times change, yet still maintain the basics that have brought us to this point. We want to put out music and ministry that is going to touch and impact people.”
The Walkers ministry desire is empower the church.
“We have a great work to do as a body,” said Billy. “It is our desire to be on the front lines, we want to help in the revival and the awakening of this great nation for God.
Whether the opportunity presents itself to visit foreign countries, add new personnel, have stage lights, play live music or use any new advanced technology to bring the group to a new level, their number one vision and priority is to see souls saved from the wrath to come.
Billy continued, “Our goal is to bring the knowledge of sin to people so that they may see the reason to receive Christ into their lives. We will not be done with our calling until the nets are full.”
To the Walkers, people are important. As ministers, both in song and in the Word, their desire is to encourage and lift the spirits to those they come in contact with.
Billy exclaimed, “What a sense of contentment when we hear from someone in Texas who received relief from depression or someone in Delaware who needs surgery and was healed!”
“There is nothing so satisfying as knowing you have been an encouragement to someone,” Walker said. “When we are in different concerts in the many states we travel in, there are so many people who walk up to us and report how they’ve been blessed and have had confirmation answered to things they’ve been seeking and praying for and they feel confident that God will work out whatever has been bothering them.”
“So from Florida to Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi in the south to the New England state, to the Midwest and to the North East, reports of blessings received gives us an even greater desire to keep traveling the highways to promote what Jesus Christ can do,” stated Billy.
And after hearing stories like these, it is easy to see why The Walkers believe the journey is worthwhile.
